Verdes is proud to partner with Animal Humane to aid in their mission to support and improve the lives of New Mexico’s cats and dogs through sheltering, adoptions, humane education and veterinary services. Verdes is hosting a Pet Food Drive at all 5 locations where you can drop off dog or cat food from April 28th to May 31st. Let’s support New Mexico’s pets, together!
A Word From Animal Humane
Animal Humane’s Pet Food Pantry is a supplemental food program supporting pets in the Albuquerque community. Food for dogs and cats is provided to assist families experiencing financial hardship. Hungry people lead to hungry pets. In fact, a study by the National Library of Medicine found that 43.6% of people prioritize their pet’s nutritional needs over their own. Many pets will find themselves facing life in a shelter when their owner is no longer able to care for them. This is why our Pet Food Pantry is so crucial to not only support the vitality of our community, but also to keep pets with their families and out of the shelter.
In 2022, we distributed over 91,000 pounds of pet food. With an increasing number of families needing help in 2023, we expect to exceed that number this year. While the need has increased, we have seen a significant decrease in the amount of pet food donations coming in. In order to keep our Pet Food Pantry open, we are now having to spend around $1,200 a week on pet food.
We would love to encourage more people to donate, while also educating the greater public about this amazing resource we have available. To do so, we have set up a Pet Food Drive with Verdes Cannabis for the month of May. Visit a Verdes location near you to donate – we appreciate your support, we couldn’t do it without you!
