Qualifying Conditions for Medical Cannabis

New Mexico’s Medical Cannabis Program allows patients with certain qualifying conditions to apply for a medical cannabis card. If you have one of the conditions listed below, you may be eligible to participate in the program.

Medical cannabis isn’t the right fit for everyone, and eligibility alone doesn’t guarantee approval. We encourage you to have an open conversation with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, treatment goals, and whether medical cannabis may be an appropriate option for you. A licensed physician must provide a recommendation as part of the application process.

StatutorY Approved Conditions

Patients may qualify for a medical cannabis card in New Mexico if they have been diagnosed with one or more of the following conditions:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord (with objective neurological indication of intractable spasticity)
  • Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
  • Friedreich’s Ataxia
  • Glaucoma
  • Hepatitis C infection
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hospice care
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Inclusion Body Myositis
  • Inflammatory autoimmune-mediated arthritis
  • Intractable nausea or vomiting
  • Lewy Body Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Opioid Use Disorder
  • Painful peripheral neuropathy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Severe anorexia or cachexia
  • Severe chronic pain
  • Spasmodic torticollis (cervical dystonia)
  • Spinal muscular atrophy
  • Ulcerative colitis
